International University of Japan (IUJ), Graduate School of International Relations (GSIR)

The GSIR at IUJ, a private university located in Niigata Prefecture, northern Japan, was established in 1982 "to equip students with political, economic, and management skills, as well as historical and cultural perspectives." It offers three masters Programmes: The International Development Program (IDP), International Relations Program (IRP), and the International Peace Studies Programme (IPSP).

Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU), Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies

Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU), Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies The APU is located in the city of Beppu, Oita Prefecture, Kyushu. The Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies offers masters programmes in Asia-Pacific Studies and International Cooperation Policy. The aim of both programmes is to train leaders and to give them the practical skills to deal with real-world problems in the region.

The Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS), Graduate School of Global Studies

TUFS is a university located in Tokyo that focuses on language education (Japanese and other Asian languages) as well as the humanities and social sciences. The Graduate School of Global Studies offers masters programmes in Area and International Studies (divided broadly into Area Studies and International Society Studies), and International Cooperation Studies (divided into International Cooperation, and Peace and Conflict Studies).

Hitotsubashi University, School of International and Public Policy

Hitotsubashi University is a prestigious national university located in Tokyo. The School of International and Public Policy offers an English-language Asian Public Policy Programme, which is targeted mainly at young Asian professionals pursuing careers in the public sector. In addition, the School is offering a Masters in Global Governance, aimed at individuals with expertise in international relations, the history of international relations and international law.

Niigata University is a national university located in Niigata City in northern Japan. The Graduate School of Modern Society and Culture offers English-language masters programmes in the areas of Cooperativeness in Legal, Economic and Social Affairs, and Social and Cultural Sciences.

Hiroshima University, Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation (IDEC)

Located in Hiroshima, at the most westerly tip of Japan's main island, Hiroshima University is a national university. Established in 1994, the Graduate School for IDEC offers an English-language Masters in International Development and Cooperation. Students on the programme can participate in a selection of internship or international cooperation programmes. Fifty-nine percent of the students are international, with the majority of those coming from Asia or Africa.

Nagoya University, Graduate School of International Development (GSID)

Nagoya is a large city located between Tokyo and Osaka. Nagoya University is a national university. Established in 1991, the GSID offers English-language masters programmes in International Development and Cooperation, and International Communication. The educational goal of the programmes is "to produce graduates with the capacity for independent research and practical work, and internationality rooted in cross-cultural understanding." More than 50% of the students on the programmes are international students, from 35 different countries.

Sofia University, Graduate School of Global Studies

Sofia University is a prestigious private university located in Tokyo. It was established by Jesuit missionaries at the beginning of the 20th Century. The English-language Masters in Global Studies has courses in a wide range of areas including anthropology, history, political science, religious studies and sociology. Elective courses focus on global issues from the perspective of Asia (electives courses covering other regions are given in Japanese).

Waseda University, Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies

A prestigious private university located in Tokyo, Waseda University is offering a Masters programme in International Relations at its Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies. The aim of the programme is to "develop professionals who will play an active role in the international society that includes the Asia-Pacific region." The Programme has three areas of specialization: Area Studies, International Relations, and International Society.

The International Christian University (ICU), Graduate School

The ICU is a private university located in Tokyo. The Division of Comparative Cultures offers a Master programme in Comparative Cultures. The foundation courses aim at increasing knowledge and understanding of all dimensions of culture and of the different methodologies of comparative study. Also, The Division of Public Administration offers a Masters in Public Administration, which has a broad range of courses in areas such as politics, public and international law, international relations, economics, business, communication and peace studies.
